Ball Publishing

Acquired by Chicago Review Press in 2009, Ball Publishing was begun early in the history of Ball Horticultural Co., which was founded in 1905. George J. Ball, the founder of the company, was a seedsman and flower grower, but also a prolific writer and a proponent of sharing knowledge. Over its long history, the company has published periodicals and books for both commercial and home horticulturalists.

Little Pickle Press (LPP) is a 21st Century publisher of high-quality, high-impact media for children. Lyons Press, begun in 1984 and an imprint of Globe Pequot since 2001, is the publisher of a distinguished list of fishing books, as well as quality works on horses, nature, camping, adventure, gardening, woodworking, travel, the sea, history, food and wine, art and reference, hunting, general sports, and more. The Lyons Press catalog currently contains over 500 titles—some literary and some practical—that appeal to a wide audience. Men’s Journal says, “It’s a list out of the old days, when publishers released books they themselves believed in.”

Orange Avenue Publishing is an innovative San Francisco-based company. We make books that make people laugh, learn, and think. We started as a packaging company, writing and designing books for other publishers for six years. Then, in 2006, we decided to publish and distribute our own line of books. We founded Zest Books, our line of smart and edgy nonfiction books for teens, but continue to publish cool, non-teen titles under the label of Orange Avenue.
